Roots here in Nutley date to 1916 when Demetrio Olivo began selling ice from a horse drawn cart. In 1925 he began selling wood and coal. The business was taken over by his son, Sal Olivo Sr., and the company was incorporated as Blue Ribbon Coal Co. Today the company is still a family affair being run by third generation brothers Sal Jr. and Frank, along with their mother Mrs. Lucille Olivo at their Washington Avenue location.
