Gail's Angels Foundation is a community based non-profit (501c)(3) organization dedicated to providing support to families that have a mom with breast cancer and also care for their autistic or special needs child.
Gail's Angels was founded in 2007 to honor the memory of Gail E. Babai who died of breast cancer in 2006. As the primary family care provider, the Chairman, James R. Babai witnessed first hand the difficulties of providing care during his wife's illness. James also witnessed the challenges faced by other families who were not only experiencing similar challenges but, in addition, had a special needs child. Gail's Angels was founded to help these families.

Nutley Family Services Bureau
Member Since 2009
Through its 95+ year history, the services provided by the NFSB have changed to meet the needs of the community. From 1913 through two world wars, concerns were foster care, food and other supports for families. As government agencies and programs began to meet those needs, the NFSB evolved into a professionally-staffed counseling agency for families and individuals. But its fundamental mission has remained the same - to provide strength to families under stress.
All of NFSB's professional staff have a master's degree in a human service field and are available for individual, family or group counseling. In addition, the staff is involved in a broad array of community outreach programs ranging from coping with adolescents and dealing with aging parents to helping individuals survive job loss. Staff members are trained to assess drug and alcohol abuse and find appropriate treatment. NFSB is under contract to the Township of Nutley to provide various services.
Each year, hundreds of clients are served. Some clients come in on their own, while others are referred through clergy, police and employee assistance programs. Fees are charged on a sliding scale based on income, but no one is refused service because of inability to pay.
The NFSB is run by a board of trustees, composed of 24 Nutley residents who volunteer their time to set policy and raise the necessary funds to ensure the continued existence of the agency. While some funding is derived from the United Way, major funding comes from client fees, corporate and municipal contracts, and through the generous donations of hundreds of individuals. Through the tireless efforts of the NFSB trustees, the Women's Auxiliary, and other volunteers, we raise funds by holding events such as the annual charity ball, and through the operation of The Thrift Shop, and important on going source of funds for the NFSB.

Nutley Little Theatre’s history reaches back to the early thirties when a group of men, connected with the Grace Episcopal Church, organized an amateur theatrical group called the Parish Players. Two of the members decided to expand their idea to a town-wide theatre group, so in 1934, Nutley Little Theatre began its career.
Born in the great Depression, when economic conditions encouraged interest in community activities, Nutley Little Theatre has continued to be a vital community organization for over 75 years, and with continued support, it will continue to bring live theatre to the Northern New Jersey area for decades to come.

Freemasonry is a "System of morality, veiled in allegory, and illustrated by symbols."
It is the world's oldest and largest Fraternal Organization. The greatest and best of men in all ages have been Masons and have never deemed it derogatory to their dignity to be associated with the Craft.
A Freemason is encouraged to do his duty first to God (by whatever name he is known) and then, without detriment to his work or family, to his neighbor (in the broadest sense) through charity and service. Freemasonry demands from its members a respect for the law of the country in which a man works and lives. Freemasonry does not override the individuals duty to one's self, one's family, one's God or work.

In 1896, a private library was established in a small building donated by James R. Hay opposite the Nutley Railroad Station on Highfield Lane. In 1904, it moved to 381 Passaic Avenue where it remained for ten years. When an Andrew Carnegie grant provided funds for a new public library, the 3,000 books were moved from to the Library's present site at Booth Drive.
Now, the Library maintains a collection of approximately 90,000 books: 65,000 adult, young adult and reference volumes and approximately 25,000 children's books. Additionally, the Library provides books-on-tape, large print books, compact music discs and a circulating video collection.
The Library is a member of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS). It is fully computerized and the holdings of all the BCCLS libraries are available, as well as various on-line computer services. The system is accessible 24/7, 365 days a year on the internet. The Library is also a member of the "Reciprocal Borrowing Libraries" of Essex County and the New Jersey Library Network.

The mission of the American Red Cross is to provide relief to victims of disaster and to help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
The Red Cross has been a presence in Nutley since April 1917, soon after the United States entered the First World War, when Col. Henry G. Prout of Nutley invited friends and neighbors to his house at 18 Stockton Place, and the Nutley Chapter was organized. From that early wartime founding the Nutley chapter has served the community continuously. In 1942 a headquarters was established at 393 Franklin Ave., and in 1961, the property at 169 Chestnut St. was purchased and ground was broken for what stands today as the Nutley office of the Montclair-Glen Ridge-Nutley Chapter.
Health & Safety classes offered include: CPR for adults, infants and children, First Aid, Babysitting, Scrubby Bear (preschool personal hygiene classes.)

UNICO's mission is to promote and enhance the Image of Italian Americans; for members to be of service to the community; to promote Italian heritage and culture; to promote, support and assist charitable, scientific, cultural, educational, and literary projects; to promote members' interest in public welfare; and, to cooperate with others in civic, social and cultural development.
UNICO was founded on October 10, 1922 in Waterbury, Connecticut. A group of 15 men, led by Dr. Anthony P. Vastola, came together to create what has become a very special and very proud organization. It was Dr. Vastola's dream to create an Italian American service organization to engage in charitable works, support higher education, and perform patriotic deeds.
The name UNICO was selected as best representing the nature and the character of this fledging organization. The name is the Italian word for unique, one of a kind. The founders believed that UNICO would be the only one of its kind because it placed service to the community before and above fraternity. At the same time they hoped that the rest of society would come to know and understand the real contributions of Italian-Americans to our way of life. Its sole purpose was to unite all Italian Americans and motivate them to become more civic minded. In order to accomplish this, members would have to understand that they would have to make sacrifices, not for personal gain, but for service to others. In the ensuing years UNICO became an acronym that stood for Unity, Neighborliness, Integrity, Charity, and Opportunity.
Looking to rediscover your Italian history? Looking to help your community? Join UNICO, The largest Italian American service organization in the US.

The Phoenix Center is a private non-profit school located in Nutley, New Jersey that provides state-approved educational and therapeutic services to children ages 5 through 21 with autism, multiple disabilities, and behavioral disabilities.
The Phoenix Center uses an integrative multiple methods approach in a highly systematic way to customize individualized teaching plans which focus on the development of the whole child and his or her family.
Our dedicated staff and administrators create unique and individualized programs for students who might not easily "fit" in other special education settings. At the same time, we work hard to empower each and every one of our students, making sure they develop the adaptive skills they need to become as independent as possible when they graduate.
Since its founding in 1991, the Phoenix Center has remained true to its original mission of providing a well-integrated program that, like the ancient Phoenix, affords children with developmental disabilities and their families the opportunity to rise to new levels of success and achievement. |
